Power grid optimisation by using additional data from smart-meters

Library of Challenges

Short description: The challenge owner is a regional utility company and their customers’ smart meters provide many additional technical data which could be used for optimising power grid planning (e.g. electrical voltage data). A tool is needed to read out, display and use/process these additional data.

Market potential: Due to increasing electrification and booming PV & EV markets, power grid security and stability gain in importance in the future, also with regard to the decarbonisation goals of industry.

Timing: The additional smart meter data is not allowed to be used now, but the national regulations are expected to change soon. The challenge owner wants to be prepared and ready to start using the data asap.

Desired result: The challenge owner requires a tool, that enables quick and easy checks of certain locations regarding their own power grid quality (voltage stability, grid safety, …). This is particularly relevant for new installations (PV, EV charging, …).

Information on challenge owner: Mid-Cap (250-3,000 staff).

Market presence of challenge owner: Active in one country.
