Industrial symbiosis in the construction sector

Library of Challenges

Short description: The challenge is to support industrial symbiosis across the construction value chain and beyond (e.g. textile). The opportunity is that waste can be transformed into valuable secondary raw material, but there is a lack of information and exchange that would highlight material flows and synergies.

Market potential: Potential users are manufacturers selling, giving away waste/secondary raw materials (e.g. aluminium oxide products, ceramic, rubber, textile, paper pulp etc.) to facilities producing products.

Timing: All advancement is essential. HuGBC uses its member network, associated partners and communication platforms to help industrial solutions known as good practice.

Desired result: Reduced CO2 emissions from construction material production, through reduced waste, increased environmental performance, resource efficiency, adoption of zero-waste approach.

Information on challenge owner: NGO/NPO.
