External central control unit for multiple solar inverters & batteries

Library of Challenges

Short description: Increasingly, home solar systems are enlarged to more complex systems with several solar inverters and two or more batteries. The challenge owner is interested in the development of an external central control unit (hard- and software) for the management of such systems.

Market potential: The photovoltaic sector has high annual growth rates (18% in 2020). More and more installations are being enlarged and control units are needed for this specific and many other applications.

Timing: The sooner, the better! The challenge owner is very flexible concerning the new solution, working with a local modbus interface, either on premise solution or cloud-based (AZURE cloud).

Desired result: Based on local interfaces (e.g. Modbus TCP / RTU) the new central unit (hardware and software) allows the management of multiple solar inverters and batteries and optimises the self-consumption of generated solar electricity. Additionally, a backup power function is highly welcome.

Information on challenge owner: Large company (> 3,000 staff).

Market presence of challenge owner: Global presence.
