Automatic calculation of the modal share of the city transport

Library of Challenges

Short description: Modal-split is one of the complex tasks in transportation research. The main approach for extracting the modes of transport has been traditional surveys. Monitoring of the city mobility is crucial in the way to climate neutrality.

Market potential: Many cities around the world are moving towards climate neutrality. Transport accounts for a significant share of urban pollution. Thus, this challenge affects all cities in the world.

Timing: The solution is already needed today. As soon as possible.

Desired result: The work must result in a solution that can calculate in real time the modal split of urban mobility with at least 80% accuracy – in four categories (pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users, vehicles).

Information on challenge owner: City/municipality.
