Engaging Residents in Urban Meadow Management

Library of Challenges

Short description: Meadows in urban residential areas are often small but rich in biodiversity. Residents and community associations could help in meadow management but need guidance to identify valuable areas and learn simple & light practices, and integrate them in their annual gardening work.

Market potential: Huge potential to scale-up: any city can utilize the solution and apply it to other habitats/invasive species that require constant/annual management.

Timing: As soon as possible. The best management season are autumns or springs. Solution can be taken into practice when ready. Note: the public procurement process.

Desired result: Residents learn to manage their biodiversity rich meadows and city gets e.g. annually updated data on the areas under management. Voluntary work increases inclusiveness among citizens and streamlining the guidance process saves city’s resources.

Information on challenge owner: City/municipality (200k residents).
